N3 Toll Route | Urgent Traffic Alert | 26 October 2021 | Montrose

27 October 2021 @ 06H20 | All incidents disrupting traffic between Cedara and Heidelberg have been cleared Traffic is flowing freely on the N3 Toll Route this morning after a day of on-going disruptions yesterday.

The scene between Swinburne and Montrose (at N3-7X 10.4 S), where a load of manganese was dropped in the southbound lanes, was cleared in the early hours of this morning (02H38).

It is currently drizzling between Cedara and Mooi River with overcast conditions reported over most of the route. Poor visibility has been reported along Van Reenen’s Pass due to thick mist. Road users are advised to switch headlights on and increase their following distances.

6 October 2021 @ 22H00 | Southbound lanes CLOSED between Swinburne and Montrose (at N3-7X Km 10.4)

Truckers who are continuing to disrupt traffic flow on the N3 Toll Route have now stopped a truck carrying manganese and dropped its load on the southbound carriageway. All southbound lanes (towards KwaZulu-Natal) are currently closed to traffic.

Traffic is being accommodated contraflow on the northbound carriageway.

It is recommended that road users delay travel until daytime.

The obstruction at Balmoral in the Free State (at N3-7X Km 45.2) has been cleared. All lanes are now open to traffic.

Reports are being received of trucks that are currently partially obstructing the N3 Toll Route near Balmoral, Free State (at N3-7X Km 45.2).

Heavy motor vehicles are being stacked at the scene, but light motor vehicles are currently able to proceed via a single lane which remains open in each direction.

SAPS Highway Patrol and RTI have been deployed to the scene and are monitoring the situation closely.

Road users are advised to be extra cautious in the area, and if possible, to please delay travels.

Following the total closure of the N3 Toll Route by trucks in the vicinity of Montrose since shortly before midnight last night, the SAPS (with the support of emergency towing services) has begun to remove the stationary vehicles that have been blockading the road. SAPS advises that several arrests have been made.

A single lane has been reopened to northbound traffic traveling towards Gauteng; and similarly, one lane on the southbound carriageway is expected to be reopened shortly.

The N3 Toll Route near Montrose (at N3-7X Km 13) remains closed due to an earlier obstruction by a number of trucks. Law enforcement has been deployed and continues to monitor the situation.

Extensive traffic disruptions and delays are being experienced between Tugela Plaza and Harrismith. Road users are advised to delay travel to this area until further notice.

The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and SAPS are attempting to divert northbound traffic (travelling towards Gauteng) at Bergville Interchange. A diversion and turnaround is also being implemented at Frere Interchange.

Truck drivers are obstructing the N3 Toll Route in both directions near Montrose (at N3-7X Km 13). Law enforcement has been deployed and are currently monitoring the situation.

A backlog of traffic has already developed between Montrose and Harrismith, and is causing delays northbound (towards Gauteng) at Tugela Plaza.
