Between Sunday, 24 November 2024 and Friday, 29 November 2024, the top arrestor bed on Van Reenen Pass at N3-6X Km 55.6S (south of Windy Corner) on the N3 Toll Route will be closed for scheduled maintenance work and will therefore, be unavailable for drivers of heavy motor vehicles to use as an emergency stop should they experience any brake failures on this steep downhill.

Law enforcement officials, supported by N3TC Route Services, will maintain a heightened presence on Van Reenen Pass during this period.

N3TC appeals to logistics operators to ensure that the mechanical systems, in particular the braking systems, on their vehicles are in good working condition. Truck drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution when driving along Van Reenen Pass during the maintenance period and are reminded to comply with the reduced speed limit of 60km/h, to pay close attention to warning signs, and to carefully follow all safety instructions.
