Between Sunday, 28 July 2024 and Wednesday, 31 July 2024, the lower arrestor bed at N3-6X Km 51.0S on Van Reenen Pass (opposite the Pyramids Motel) on the N3 Toll Route will be closed for scheduled maintenance work and will, therefore, be unavailable for drivers of heavy motor vehicles to use as an emergency stop should they experience any brake failures on this steep downhill.

Law enforcement officials, supported by N3TC Route Services, will maintain a heightened presence on Van Reenen Pass during this period.

N3TC appeals to logistics operators to ensure that the mechanical systems, particularly the braking systems, on their vehicles are in good working condition. Truck drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution when driving along Van Reenen Pass during the maintenance period and are reminded to comply with the speed limit of 60km/h, to pay close attention to all warning signs, and to carefully follow all safety instructions.
